All initial applications for the programme will be made via the University Postgraduate online applications system.

We advise you to apply early to secure a place for the 2024/25 academic year. The programme entry points are as follows: -

September 2024 - Certificate (part-time), Diploma (part-time), Accelerated Diploma (part-time), Masters (part-time and full-time), Accelerated Masters (part-time).
November 2024 - additional entry point for Certificate (part-time) only.

Statement on Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

For postgraduate taught programmes, applications for Recognition for Prior Learning (RPL) will be considered on an individual basis, and on student request, by the Degree Programme Director.

The maximum possible RPL that we can grant is 20 credits for students studying to Certificate level (for the Teaching and Learning in the Classroom module), and 60 credits for students studying to Diploma or Masters level (for the full Certificate stage, or the full Diploma stage for students who have previously studied the Certificate with us).

Students applying for the Accelerated Diploma, or the Full-Time Masters, can also apply for RPL for the Teaching and Learning in the Classroom module.

RPL applications must demonstrate that all the learning outcomes of a module or module(s) have been achieved previously through certificated learning. The Degree Programme Director will consider applications in line with University policy and regulations relating to RPL and with reference to the learning outcomes detailed in the Programme Specification and the appropriate Module Outline Forms.

The Programme has a specific arrangement with The Postgraduate School of Primary Care, HENE, in that GPs who have successfully completed the Intending Trainers Course with that institution will be automatically given RPL for the Teaching and Learning in the Classroom module. GP trainers who have completed a similar course elsewhere would be eligible for the same, subject to discussion with the Degree Programme Director.

Externally sponsored students (where fees are not coming from a Newcastle University sponsorship source)

If your employer is sponsoring you, you will need to provide confirmation of sponsorship in the form of a purchase order. This should be sent to the programme administration emeded@ncl.ac.uk. Please note that you will not be able to register for the programme until either the first instalment of fees are paid by you or a purchase order is received from your employer.

For students being sponsored from an internal Newcastle University source, fees will be sorted between your School/Institute and Tuition Fees using internal sponsorship forms.

Full-Time Master of Medical Education - Fee Assistance for Intercalators

There will be bursaries available, which you can apply for through the Medical Student Office, for intercalators from the Newcastle University MBBS programme.

Referees

Potential students will also be required to provide contact details for two referees who will be able to comment on: -

The student's professional context and current educational responsibilities.
The student's potential to achieve the academic outcomes for the course.
